About me

I’m Candy from Plymouth, England, and I’ve been teaching English in Spain since 2008. After graduating from Cardiff University where I studied English Literature and French, I started working as a language assistant in Soria, completed my master’s in education, and worked at a charter school near Burgos for three years. I took the state teaching exams for the first time in 2015, obtaining my position as a secondary English teacher.

Since then, I’ve been back in Soria at the same school where I first started and enjoying every minute of it. I’ve been working as the Bilingual Coordinator for a few years and have recently been appointed Head of the English Department. Apart from teaching my wonderful students, one of my passions involves organising extracurricular opportunities for my students, like language and culture trips, debates, EU competitions and fundraising activities. I believe that students can learn just as much or more from these activities as they can within the classroom.
My Let’s Pass the Opos journey began when I was asked by some teacher training students at my school if I knew anyone who could prepare them for the teaching exams. I realised I’d prepared the whole process myself and had some very original techniques and a methodology that I wanted to share, to help other people pass the exams. Having obtained great results with my first group of students, I set up Let’s Pass the Opos online, to be able to teach students on a national level.

When I’m not working, I can be found out in the countryside with my husband and my dogs, at Pilates classes, curled up with a good book or thinking about that sci-fi fantasy novel I’m one day going to write If you’re interested in preparing for the state English teaching exams in an interesting and innovative way, with a motivational approach and a support network for any worries that come up along the way, Let’s Pass the Opos is for you. I look forward to being your guide!

About Let´s Pass the Opos

Let’s Pass the Opos provides teacher training and state exam guidance for candidates wishing to obtain their coveted position as Secondary and Baccalaureate teachers of the subject of English in Spain. Over the years, LPTO has gone from strength to strength, obtaining fantastic results, plenty of positions, and many satisfied candidates. I pride myself on my knowledge of the constantly changing education laws, methodology and the exam process, and continually update my own classes, material and methods, both in school and for my exam candidates, to reflect this.
As so many people are busy and have crazy timetables which impede them from attending class at a specific time every week, I have developed this online training method to provide an interesting alternative which is more accessible. My aim is always to create a personalised learning environment where you feel comfortable and motivated in your preparation process.

I only prepare for secondary as that’s my specialism, and I prepare for all regions. Potential EOI teachers are welcome to join our adventure, but I won’t be making any specific adaptations so you’ll have to work with the material as it is, which is adaptable for the topics and practical exams, but could be difficult in terms of the syllabus which is very different.

My firm belief is that the oposiciones system does not have to be as stressful or confusing as many people find it. In fact, with effective preparation, we can convert the whole process into an enjoyable learning experience, with guidance and support every step of the way. Nowadays, you have to be more creative with your approach to the exams, and that’s what I teach my students.
